Recently I hang out with seniors from rock n roll club a lot and I find one thing extremely odd (or is it just me?).
The world is colorful and has variety because of different people who live in it. I don't think we should be judged by our favor to music. If you are a fan of Japanese food, and I happen to be crazy about Mexican food, does that mean one of us is inferior to the other? I think the answer is negative. So in my opinion, looking down on music genres which one doesn’t prefer only shows the person is not open-minded enough. And that is not only helpless for one to appreciate music but not a quality of being a better person. Don't be arrogant and be more humble; you may find something fascinating in those which you have not known yet. :)
The reason why one falls into a song is sometimes complicated and unexplainable. Take this song for instance: Avenged Sevenfold - Dear God. Recently, I've been listening to it over and over again. It reminds me of my mom every time I play this. Some may regard the song as nothing for it lacks splendid skills, but they don't understand what it means to me. Therefore, I don't think it's wise to criticize something before you fully comprehend it.
There was a period of time in which I felt embarrassed by those "shallow" songs I enjoy, but last night (20121114) I suddenly realize that the origin purpose we listen to music is for our own pleasure, whether it's that songs tell hilarious stories, make you smile and cry, or strike a chord. There is no need to twist your nature to be "cool" or "high class". Who set the standard of "awesome" is not that important when comparing with yours.
